HGGM believes in creating local resources to respond to local needs without waiting for donors. The handout model have made many organizations, ministries or churches remain dependent of the donation model. This is our principle:help us or empower us to help ourselves. In the process of helping many have been hurt. This model can be a “helping without hurting the poor we aim to help”.

To be able to start this new approach, HGGM initiated a goat farm for orphans: it responds to the immediate needs of the orphans hosted in families, or some basic needs of children sponsored (like buying them shoes, clothes, or economical empowerment by receiving on offspring) without waiting to receive help from the sponsor. But also with this goat project we support refugee children who cannot afford education by selling the younger males.

This goat farming model is affordable, reproducible and sustainable. We dream to make it a big farm and a model which will help both the refugees in and with the hosting community to make sustainability a positive step for successful integration. With a slight empowerment both in the infrastructure setting, the extension of the farm, this can also become a business incubation model, where young entrepreneurs will get both the capacity and the seed capital/breed required to start their own farms.

Our vision is to provide orphaned children or extremely poor children with a good future, a safe home and a caring family. We realize that it is not possible to help everyone who needs help.  However we want to help children who have a potential to develop the society they grow up in. Empowering children to be self sustaining in the future. This implies certain limitations and conditions:

With "Good Future" we mean primarily the children we help must have a good future. This means that the child initially is not fatal or life-threatening illnesses or injuries. In this case this type of aid requires different skills and greater economy. In such cases, we have chosen to refer to other organizations that possess the right expertise and who can provide appropriate support to that child.

With "Good Future" we also men that children should have the opportunity to access elementary school followed by high or vocational training at a technical college or university level. Through education children should be equipped to support themselves and their potential future family, community or nation.

With "safe home" we mean that the child will live in a house / home that has adequate standard conditions compared to the former situation they have been living in.  That child is offered the opportunity of growing up in an environment where security and a safe environment have priority.

Refugee children cannot access education easily. One UNHCR officer said “give them basic education”.

These children spend their green age in the refugee camps. Over crowded classrooms, those who can access private schools cannot afford them. Those who can be able to finish their primary schools cannot easily access the high school level. It becomes worse when many of them drop schools, get involved in drug abuse, early pregnancies, early marriages, drug addicts, to some extent recruitment as child soldiers in the armed groups in their country of origins.

Today refugees but tomorrow citizens in your communities. It is a much better approach to support the education of refugee children while in the hosting country. Later intervention makes them less competitive, violent when life becomes hard, irresponsible parents in their future home.

While others see failure in them, let us see opportunity and hope.

HGGM works to empowerrefugee churches in Uganda to fully integrate in their hosting communities.

Respectful, mutual and healthy partnership is needed to empower refugee churches to be part of the integral mission “to demonstrate among people who are poor the good news of the Kingdom of God in a contextually appropriate way”.

Join us to help the church move from dependence minded approach to more Kingdom minded one.

All HGGM’s activities are build up from a church based approach. We consider the church to be a family. The body of believers where fellowship and mutual encouragement is  shaped. A place in which differences can be managed and lived beyond our limitations. Where our true identity is exercised. The church unites while the religion divides. The church transcends the historical limitation, divisions. It is Kingdom building not empire building. It is Christ-centered not man-centered. It is permanent while institutions are temporal. The core message we preach is summarized in these few words: loved to love.

HGGM has planted two churches, one church in Nakivale Settlement. This one is only formed of refugees specially from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Another church was planted in Mubende community. We gather together many different communities from different tribes. We use local languages to reach out and preach the Gospel.

Why we believe and preach what we believe?

Reasons are many to why we believe in the Grace of God and preach it. We just mention just a few:

  1. Grace brings the healing from the legalism message which has made the church man-centered instead of Christ-centered;
  2. Grace makes the believer avoid the self acquired righteousness other than the God given righteousness received as a gift from believing in Jesus Christ;
  3. Grace empowers the believer to be forgiving other than condemning;
  4. Under Grace sin shall not have dominion over the believers
  5. Under grace we serve not to be accepted but because we are accepted;
  6. Under grace Christianity is not a religion but a relationship;
  7. Christ and His finished work is the Gospel
  8. Under grace a new nature is imparted to us instead of our old evil nature reformed.
